APEST Assessment

Are you curious about your unique ministry style? An APEST assessment such as my FiveFold Flow Assessment can help you uncover your strengths and areas for growth in apostolic, prophetic, evangelistic, shepherding, and teaching ministries. By gaining insight into your personal style, you can better understand how to serve and lead in your community.

What is an APEST assessment?

An APEST assessment is a tool used to identify an individual’s unique ministry style. APEST stands for apostolic, prophetic, evangelistic, shepherding, and teaching ministries. These five ministry styles are based on the biblical teachings of Ephesians 4:11-13. This passage describes the different roles and gifts needed for the growth and maturity of the church. An APEST assessment helps individuals understand their strengths and areas for development in each of these areas. This will allow them to better serve and lead in their communities.

Understanding the apostolic ministry style

The apostolic ministry style focuses on pioneering and establishing new works, both within and outside the church. Those with this ministry style are often visionaries and risk-takers, with a strong desire to see the kingdom of God expand. They are natural leaders and strategists, able to mobilize and inspire others to join them in their mission. However, they may struggle with patience and attention to detail. They may also need to work on developing relationships and building trust with others.

Understanding the prophetic ministry style

The prophetic ministry style is focused on hearing and communicating the voice of God to others. Those with this ministry style are often sensitive to the spiritual realm and have a strong intuition for discerning truth and deception. They are able to speak words of encouragement, correction, and direction to individuals and communities. However, they may struggle with pride and the temptation to use their gift for personal gain. They also may need to work on developing humility and accountability.

Understanding the evangelistic ministry style

The evangelistic ministry style is focused on sharing the gospel and bringing people to faith in Jesus Christ. Those with this ministry style are often outgoing, passionate, and persuasive communicators who are able to connect with people from all walks of life. They have a heart for outreach and are willing to take risks to share the message of salvation. However, they may struggle with burnout and the pressure to constantly produce results. Additionally, they may need to work on developing a deeper understanding of grace and rest in their ministry.

Understanding the shepherding ministry style

The shepherding ministry style is focused on caring for and nurturing the spiritual growth of individuals and communities. Those with this ministry style are often compassionate, empathetic, and patient, with a heart for building relationships and providing support. They excel at creating a sense of belonging and community and are often seen as mentors or spiritual guides. However, they may struggle with setting boundaries and may need to work on developing assertiveness in their ministry.

Understanding the teaching ministry style

The teaching ministry style is one of the five ministry styles identified in the APEST assessment. Those with a teaching ministry style have a passion for learning and sharing knowledge with others. They are often gifted in explaining complex concepts in a way that is easy to understand. Those with a teaching ministry style may excel in roles such as Bible study leaders, Sunday school teachers, or seminary professors. However, it’s important to note that individuals can have multiple ministry styles and may not fit neatly into one category.

How can an APEST assessment help improve ministry skills?

The APEST assessment can help individuals discover their unique ministry style and identify their strengths and weaknesses. By understanding their ministry style, individuals can better align their skills and passions with specific roles and responsibilities within their church or ministry. Additionally, the assessment can provide insight into areas where individuals may need to improve or develop new skills in order to be more effective in their ministry. Overall, an APEST assessment is a valuable tool for anyone looking to grow and improve their ministry skills.
