6 Reasons Why Your Church Needs A Clear Mission

Purpose

Your mission answers the key question ‘what does your church exist to do?’

To answer this, we need to look at your church’s  journey and where you have come from, which means examining your apostolic purpose. All churches have an apostolic purpose, called the Great Commission. But this Commission is big and broad, so we must find out what your church’s part is in fulfilling this Great Commission. Specifically, the outworking of this purpose will look very different for each church and is dependent on a number of factors. Therefore, discovering your church’s mission first begins with discovering it’s unique apostolic purpose.

An unclear or unknown mission will have a negative impact on the organisation in multiple ways. In contrast, when a church has a clear organisational mission there are a number of benefits:

1. A clear mission is essential so the church is able to assess and review its ministry effectively.

2. A clear mission is essential so the church knows why it exists.

3. A clear mission is essential so the church can accurately see its God-dreamed vision.

4. A clear mission is essential so the church can identify the thinking it needs for success.

5. A clear mission is essential so the church can implement the right form and function for victory.

6. A clear mission is essential so the church can correctly discern priorities of importance.
